Spurring and supporting policymakers, action-learners, advocates and others working together to advance norms and improve institutions

Across the world, governance, institutional, and policy (GIP) impediments are among the greatest challenges to the achievement of vital goals in areas ranging form human security to sustainable development. A range of civil society as well as cross-sector organizations and networks have emerged to advocate for GIP changes that could lead to more favorable enabling environments for the achievement of these crucial 21st century goals.

Transnational advocacy efforts in particular have become critical vehicles for scaling impacts around the world. Transnational advocacy efforts can take various forms: organizations, coalitions around specific campaigns, longer term alliances, or social movements that are based on grassroots social mobilization and solidarity across countries and continents. The forms of transnational advocacy often interact within as specific issue area or across issue areas. Regardless of the form, transnational advocacy efforts prioritize the creation, institutionalization and implementation of global norms, implement multi-level and cross-country influence strategies, and use a range of tactics (from elite lobbying to mass mobilization to evidence-based policy analysis and so on).

iScale contributes to scaling the impact of transnational advocacy efforts through its high impact projects and community building programs, including the International Advocacy Evaluation Community of Practice. iScale supports transnational advocacy efforts with a range of innovations for scaling impact including guidance on strategy, structure and governance; communications and especially social media; and developing impact planning, assessment, reporting and learn systems (IPARLs).
